Hello,

Would it be possible to include general headless zone rules and usage guidelines in the conbook next year? There has been a lot said on this topic in the past, but it's not mentioned anywhere but on the AC forums. It would make things much easier for new suiters if every con attendee had them.

I know it might not be worth the time (as most people don't read the conbook), but I think it's a good idea. Feel free to take it or leave it as you see fit.

People may not read the conbook, but if someone does something wrong then at least you can point to the conbook and say 'you have no excuse for not knowing you shouldnt be doing this!'

If I recall correctly, they're posted on a large sign outside the main lounge, are they not?

Kind of? The poster outside the lounge reads:

  • Fursuiters and 1 escort only
  • No photography
  • No solicitation
  • No loitering
  • No horseplay

That doesn't really cover the comparatively large amount of discussion that's been had on these forums:

I just feel like there are a lot of extra rules that aren't covered by 5 lines on a single sign in the convention center, and I think it would be beneficial to include some of these things (as well as general "how to treat fursuiters" guidelines) in the conbook.

When i went to this years AC, some person was going up to me with a stuffed fox and talking to me when i was in a hurry.

Isn't there some rule about not delaying a fursuiter who needs to cool off?

You have every right to making a "i'm too hot" sign with your hands or a "I need water" gesture and quickly head to the headless lounge. People will understand. If you're really dehydrated, break the magic and speak up, saying you need to get water and someone will most likely escort you.

Whilst the idea seems good, it's also an added expense as there is a charge to put more content in the con book. We try to make it clear on the site, Facebook, Twitter, and other sources on what to do and what not to do at the con, especially concerning the Headless Zones.

As stated, if you're feeling overheated, dizzy, nauseous, or any other illness whilst in suit, you have every right to break character no matter where you're at if your health is on the line. That being stated, know your limits before you perform in suit.

Honestly, IMHO, it should go by common sense or "What if I was..." style. Obviously, the biggies should always be known, "Suiter + 1 only" , No Photography, etc. Now do the rules warrant a need to be added to the con book? IMHO, not really, but that's up to the higher-ups to decide. Are there always problems with rules being broken perhaps?

Actually,
whether or not the handler is allowed in the Fursuit Zone
will surprise you. Official ruling:
Handlers are allowed to escort you in and assist with
any removal, but must then wait to be called to assist
you close up prior to leaving.

Headless Zone volunteer here. From what I've seen this rule seems to be most strictly enforced during high-traffic fursuiting events such as the Fursuit Games and the Masquerade. Any suiter who has been in the Headless Zones during these events will understand why this rule needs to exist. It gets crowded in there.

If we keep the fursuit games in the old zoo loacation (as we did last year) than this removes alot of extra traffic off the headless room in the DLCC. I think this was a good move on the board's part to move the Sunday games and would like to request they stay in that room. With a few slight mods to the airwalls, we can use that whole back area as a headless room as we did last year.

I also that was a great idea.  I think maybe next year make the opening sligtly smaller so that people watching cannot see the people on the other side.  I know a few times between games I was sitting with my mate and I could see right into the area.

We could have made the opening a bit smaller but what would really help is if we can get the same type of freestanding curtain dividers that block the direct view to the doors at the DLCC Headless-Zone. Three would be fine but at least two would help in this area to create a "hallway" walkaround of sorts.

For everyone who participated in the Team Fursuit Games in the Allegheny Grand Ballroom at the Westin in 2014, we ended up using the Dance Floor area for the games (middle, Allegheny II), the left side facing the "stage" area for con' attendees (Allegheny I) and the headless-zone to the right (Allegheny III).

Besides the having some people able to see part of the headless-zone from the game area, is there anything else you would like to comment on or suggestions on how we can set it up better for everyone?

I personally thought there were a bit too many tables and chairs that were really needed for 2014. I would like to see a few tables and enough chairs for at least the fursuiters and their handlers and have a bit more space in the middle.

Did everyone thought this was the right amout of tables/chairs or would you like to have a smaller number so you can have more space to move about?

BTW When I suggested to see if we can use the room dividers between Allegheny II & Allegheny III to create a headless-zone (I think the orig' plan to that point was using the Westin Headless-Zone on the 2nd floor with the games in the Allegheny were on the 3rd...thought that was not good) the Westin Staff was able to do this for us even though this was a last minute request and the fursuit games were to start in less than an hour...

...for the Westin Staff who helped us to create an area inside the ballroom as a headless-zone, Thank You Very Nice!

Salem
